FIELD

There are flowers in the field
that are rare
and their stems curve
to emulate mimetic
like artists, the waves
over the end of the field
where there is sea,
some loose horses graze in the field
their hind legs as muscular
and similar in color
as the people in Bizerte
as the hair of the women
brown golden hair
brown
golden gorgon hair
the air is wet full of
lightning serpent
a boy gazes
a girl by the horse
through a forked tree.
A woman
in a purple hijab
and violet sleeves
holds her daughter by the hand
walking, grazing by the hour of lights after sundown.
Looking from the window
I lose all faith in another world.

BIOLOGY CLASS IN ARUBA

15 year old in biology class
I answered exams with blanks
Cinema of pain,
a movie shuffled projected
on larval-white plaster wall, showed
cruel glutton fly,
vibrating its wings
but its husk embedded in the green
translucent body catterpillar,
a parody of butterflies,
and of moth-angels,
a mocker parody of chimeras
and of miracles,

in the slow blossoming of pain
unbosoming me,
the heart is cut by leaves
where nascent butterflies once hung.
