Book Reviews in this Issue

Issue 27 of Wordgathering continues its efforts to serve up a variety of reviews that keep readers abreast of what is new in disability literature. This issue provides a look at two exciting anthologies. Jeffrey Brune and Daniel J. Wilson's collection offers varied viewpoints around one of the most contentious issues in disabilities studies, passing as "normal." Joselle Vanderhooft edits the most recent volume of The Wiscon Chronicles, which focuses this time around on the portrayal of disability in science fiction and speculative writing. New novels featuring a main character with a disability are always received with anticipation and in Mantis Dreams, Adam Pottle creates a character that will be hard to forget.

As in other issues, disability-related poetry is high on our list of new books. Poet/novelist Jillian Weise, whose writing is always pushing new edges, continues to surprise in The Book of Goodbyes. Anna Evans, noted for her work in formal poetry as editor of Barefoot Muse and Raintree Review, turns her attention to a very personal topic. Cali Linfor, a newcomer to Wordgathering readers, grabs our attention with just her book's title.

In addition to these reviews, excerpts from two novels, Adam Pottle's Manits Dreams and Carol Smallwood's Lily's Odyssey can be read in Wordgathering's "Excerpts" section.
