Lorraine Inabinett

Reckoning

A bullet to the head would have been faster
And kinder.
But, that would have required explanation,
And it's hard to justify murder.
The appearance of an acceptable reason for the killing was needed.
Masquerading as a longsuffering mate of a
Severely damaged woman was plausible.
It even seemed reasonable,
But, that didn't explain why he fought for rehabilitation money,
Yet wouldn't allow her to be treated,
Or why he ignored the pleas of her loved ones and wouldn't divorce her,
Even after he took up with another woman.
It didn't explain why he went to court to keep absolute control over her fate,
Fighting relentlessly to end her life
And keep her family away from her.
What had she done?

Lorraine Inabinett is married and has four children. She is a poet and songwriter who lives in Kitsap County, Washington. Though music and poetry are her passions, childrearing has overshadowed her work. Inabinett states, "I don't talk much about being disabled.
